In this paper, a new kind of electronic devices is described:  namely, a biodegradable one.  Devices like MOSFETs can be fabricated, and implanted into mouse tissue, showing virtually no inflammation.  These devices can be programmed to do a variety of tasks (heating (demonstrated), releasing chemicals, etc.) and they are transient in the range of 15 days.
