Activation of remote meta-C–H bonds assisted by an end-on template

In this work, a really interesting example of meta-C-H activation is described. The strategy employed is attaching a template to the substrate, where the template has a nitrile group that binds Pd in an end-on fashion, forcing the formation of a large ring-like TS in C-H activation step.
