A copper-catalyzed aerobic oxidative cross-dehydrogenative coupling (CDC) of amine with alpha -carbonyl aldehyde has been developed. Mechanism studies show that carbonyl group of alpha-carbonyl aldehyde plays a role as the directing group to facilitate this chemical process
