In this paper, the dynamics of four ordered and one disordered phases of decanethiol on Au(111) are investigated.  From STM, I-V and I-t measurements, the authors conclude that the beta, gamma, chi* and the disordered phases all exhibit rich dynamics, but in particular, for the lying-down beta phase, the gold-thiolate complexes on the surface diffuse on the timescale of ~0.1 ms, and in the disordered phase, the alkyl tails flip.
